INTRODUCTION
Why Visit
My favorite part of Incheon was an early walk around Songdo Central Park. After arriving the night before, it felt good to be outside among autumn trees, pedestrian bridges and buildings reflected in the water. Runners and cyclists were out, and women on their morning walks greeted me as I passed.
For years, Incheon had been the airport I used for client visits in Seoul. An overnight connection from Osaka to San Francisco finally gave me a reason to stay here. We visited on October 11–12, 2026, choosing the Sheraton Grand Incheon beside Central Park rather than making the longer trip into Seoul.
I had vaguely imagined a place with fishing-village roots. The enormous bridges and rows of apartment towers on the way from the airport soon corrected that picture. In Songdo, the skyline became more varied, with individually designed office buildings, landscaped paths and water running through the park. From our room on the 22nd floor, it looked like a city in its own right.
We also visited Bupyeong, Chinatown and the Open Port district. They showed us different sides of Incheon, but too much of our short day disappeared into car journeys. For a single night between flights, I would concentrate on Songdo: enjoy the park, visit a nearby museum or viewpoint, have a good meal and return to the airport without rushing.

Practical Information
Getting There
From Incheon International Airport
Incheon International Airport is on an island, while Songdo is on the mainland. It is a separate transfer, even though both are in Incheon. Our arrival at Terminal 2 involved a long walk before immigration, baggage and customs; the terminal was impressive, but its scale is worth allowing for after a flight.
We used Uber for the journey to the Sheraton. Our October 2026 ride took about 35 minutes and cost roughly US$35. I liked seeing the price beforehand and paying through the app. The Uber app can request local taxis in Incheon; Kakao T is another booking option. Follow the pickup instructions for your own terminal rather than relying on an old meeting-point number.
Airport coaches 6777 and 6777-1 serve Songdo's Central Park area. Compare the current departures and stops with your flight and hotel location; this is a public coach service, not a Sheraton shuttle. Rail is another option via the airport railway to Gyeyang, changing to Incheon Line 1, but the route is less direct than the road transfer.
Before leaving the airport, confirm that you can enter South Korea, what happens to your checked baggage and which terminal handles the onward flight. Asiana-operated flights use Terminal 2; for a codeshare, check the operating airline. For our 9 p.m. departure, we left the hotel at 4 p.m. and had ample time, but plan your own transfer around the airline's check-in guidance, traffic and the correct terminal.
Getting Around
Walking and local transport
Walking was the pleasure of staying beside Central Park. My circuit through the park and surrounding streets was 5.1 km (3.2 miles), but you can make a shorter waterside loop. The broad paths are comfortable for exploring, while major roads, long blocks and crossings make destinations beyond the park feel farther apart than they look on a map.
Central Park and Incheon National University are adjacent stations on Incheon Line 1. Central Park is convenient for the western park end, museums and Tri-bowl; choose the station nearest your actual hotel or destination. This is not the same line as the metropolitan Line 1 serving Incheon Station and Chinatown. For local transit directions, use Incheon Transit Corporation’s English map and your preferred map app; Seoul’s official English fare guide explains the shared metropolitan subway fare structure.
We used Uber for the longer journeys. It worked well, but the rides to Bupyeong and then Chinatown took more than half an hour and around 25 minutes respectively on our visit. I would save those districts for a longer stay rather than spend a transit day crossing the city.
Maps, language and phone data
During my visit, Google Maps did not offer walking or cycling directions, and Apple Maps results were mixed. Have Naver Map or KakaoMap ready for local directions; both mobile apps offer English. Save the hotel's address in Korean and download a translation app before setting out. Reliable mobile data made finding rides and getting back to the hotel much easier.
Where I would stay
The Sheraton Grand Incheon put Central Park just outside our door, with an excellent breakfast and a fine view. Our high-floor upgrade came through my Marriott status, and we arranged a 4 p.m. checkout for that stay. Ask about luggage storage and late checkout, but do not make the day's plan depend on either an upgrade or a particular checkout time.
Songdo around Central Park: My choice for an overnight stop with a usable sightseeing day. Check the hotel's actual position around the park and the walk to restaurants and the nearest station.
Airport island and terminal-area hotels: Better when your connection leaves time mainly for sleeping, or when an early departure makes the mainland transfer inconvenient. Check which terminal a shuttle serves and its operating hours.
Chinatown and the Open Port district: Worth considering on a longer Incheon visit focused on the historic harbor neighborhoods. I would not move here for a brief Songdo-centered stopover.
How much time to allow
One night with most of the following day was enough for a worthwhile introduction to Songdo. A late arrival followed by an early flight is a different proposition; in that case, sleep near the airport. Add another night if you want time in Bupyeong and the old port without watching the clock throughout the visit.
Opening days and tickets
The museum buildings, Tri-bowl and G-Tower were exterior stops on my walk. For a return visit, I would check their opening calendars before choosing an indoor stop. Monday is a poor day to rely on these interiors, although holiday exceptions differ. The park and architecture still make an enjoyable walk when the museums are closed.
Money
South Korea uses the won (KRW). My app-booked rides avoided the need to exchange cash for those journeys, but do not assume every market stall or transit-ticket machine accepts a foreign card. Check the payment method for your chosen ticket before leaving the station or terminal.
Seasonal Weather in Incheon
Songdo's park and waterfront make the weather part of the visit. Spring and fall suit longer walks; summer calls for rain plans, while winter is better broken into shorter outdoor stretches between warm indoor stops.
Spring (March–May)
Spring changes markedly between cool March mornings and warmer days in May.
Average lows 2–13°C (36–55°F) and average highs 10–22°C (50–72°F).
Seasonal highlight: Fresh park greenery and milder afternoons make later spring inviting for a long Central Park circuit.
Outdoors and clothing: Pack layers and a wind-resistant jacket for early starts and exposed paths beside the water.
Summer (June–August)
Summer is warm, humid and the wettest season, so an outdoor-only plan can be uncomfortable.
Average lows 18–23°C (64–73°F) and average highs 26–29°C (79–84°F).
Seasonal highlight: Songdo's summer music events add a reason to check the calendar if your flight dates coincide.
Outdoors and clothing: Walk earlier, carry water and rain protection, and keep an open museum in mind for heavy rain or heat.
Fall (September–November)
September can still be warm, with much cooler weather by November. The red and yellow leaves were a highlight of my October walk.
Average lows 4–18°C (39–64°F) and average highs 12–26°C (54–79°F).
Seasonal highlight: Autumn foliage adds color to Central Park and reflections beneath Songdo's towers.
Outdoors and clothing: Wear layers and bring a warmer jacket for evenings, particularly later in the season.
Winter (December–February)
Winter brings freezing mornings, and wind can make the open park paths feel colder still.
Average lows −5 to −3°C (23–27°F) and average highs 2–5°C (36–41°F).
Seasonal highlight: Combine Songdo's architecture with the writing-systems or urban-history museum for an indoor-focused visit.
Outdoors and clothing: Bring a warm coat, hat and gloves, use shoes with grip, and shorten the waterside walk when paths are icy.
Attractions & Museums
National Museum of World Writing Systems
(Museum of writing systems · 217 Central-ro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon · Incheon Line 1, Central Park, Exit 3) (map)
The flowing pale building beside Central Park caught my attention on the morning walk. Its subject is writing systems, rather than languages alone: a good reason to look more closely at how people record and communicate ideas. I saw the exterior, but would consider the museum for an indoor visit next time.
General admission is free. The museum normally opens Tuesday–Sunday, with Monday and selected holiday closures and exceptions. Check the official visitor information for your date and any separately ticketed exhibition.
Incheon Urban History Museum
(City-history museum · 238 Incheon tower-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon · Incheon Line 1, Central Park, Exit 3) (map)
Songdo's skyline made me curious about how Incheon became a city of this size. The Urban History Museum gives context to that development, from the older city to its modern expansion. I passed the building on my walk; an interior visit would add background to the streets and towers outside.
Admission is free. It normally closes on Mondays, but opens when Monday is a public holiday. Use the museum's current visitor page before planning the stop.
Tri-bowl
(Arts and performance venue · 250 Incheon tower-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon · Incheon Line 1, Central Park, Exit 3) (map)
Tri-bowl was one of the buildings I most enjoyed from outside. Three connected bowl-like forms rise above a reflecting pool, with sweeping curves that look different as you walk around them. It fits naturally into a Central Park circuit and is worth seeing even without an exhibition ticket.
The building hosts exhibitions and performances rather than a permanent display that is always available. Consult Tri-bowl's programme for interior access and tickets. Monday closures and exhibition changeovers can affect a visit.
G-Tower observation deck
(Observation deck · G-Tower 33F, 175 Art Center-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon · Incheon Line 1, Central Park) (map)
I walked past G-Tower but did not go up, since we already had a fine view from the hotel's 22nd floor. For another visitor, the 33rd-floor observation deck would be an appealing way to see the scale of Songdo, the park and the development around it.
Admission to the observatory is free, but it closes on Mondays and selected public holidays. Weekend opening starts later than weekday opening, so check the official 33rd-floor visitor information. The separate 29th-floor Sky Garden has different access arrangements; do not confuse its hours with the observatory.
Neighborhoods & Parks
Songdo Central Park
(Urban park · 160 Convensia-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon · Incheon Line 1, Central Park or Incheon National University) (map)
Central Park was the highlight of my stopover. Water runs through the landscaped grounds, crossed by pedestrian bridges, with modern towers reflected between the trees. Traditional Korean-style buildings and public art give you more to look at than the skyline alone.
Much of Songdo was built on reclaimed land. Around the park, that planned-city scale becomes easier to appreciate on foot: wide walking paths, running routes and cycle paths weave between the water and the buildings. During my October visit, red, yellow and brown leaves softened the glass and steel.
My 5.1 km circuit included surrounding streets. Allow about 1½–2 hours for a leisurely park walk, or follow a shorter loop after a tiring flight. The museum buildings and Tri-bowl can be exterior stops along the way; an interior visit needs its own time.
Bupyeong Cultural Street
(Shopping and market neighborhood · Around 78-2 Bupyeongmunhwa-ro, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon · Bupyeong, Incheon Line 1 or metropolitan Line 1) (map)
We went to Bupyeong after seeing it on a local tourism map. The journey showed us how large Incheon is, with industrial and residential neighborhoods quite different from Songdo. We walked several streets and visited a Lotte Mart in a station, but skipped the underground stalls because time was short.
The street markets, shops and everyday activity were interesting. I would be curious to return after dark, although our visit was during the day. For this stopover, I would have preferred fewer car journeys and more time to explore one area properly.

Chinatown and the Open Port district
(Historic harbor neighborhoods · Chinatown-ro and adjoining Open Port streets, Incheon · Incheon Station, metropolitan Line 1 or Suin–Bundang Line) (map)
Another ride brought us to Chinatown, on a hillside beside the harbor. After walking its decorated streets, we continued a few blocks into the Open Port district, where historic buildings, small shops, restaurants and bars made an inviting contrast to Songdo.
Incheon's port opened in 1883, an important part of the city's development. The Open Port Museum offers more historical context, but we did not tour it. I would give these neighborhoods a separate outing on a longer visit, with time to explore rather than squeeze them between a park walk and airport check-in.

Food and Drink
What we ate in Songdo
The hotel's breakfast buffet was excellent. I had spicy pork stew, shrimp fried rice and different kinds of kimchi, alongside the international choices. After that generous breakfast, pastries and sandwiches from Ann Bakery near the hotel suited us later in the day.
With a lighter breakfast, I would sit down to a Korean lunch near Central Park and enjoy it without another cross-city journey afterward. Ask the hotel concierge for somewhere nearby that is open at the right time.
Korean dishes I enjoy
Korean meals with colleagues in Los Angeles introduced me to these favorites:
Korean barbecue: Grilled meat with accompaniments and small side dishes, best enjoyed as a leisurely sit-down meal.
Bibimbap: Rice mixed with vegetables and other toppings, often with a spicy sauce served alongside.
Spicy cold buckwheat noodles: A particular favorite of mine, especially when I want something different from a hot rice dish.
Kimchi pancakes: Savory pancakes made with fermented cabbage.
Kimchi and other banchan: The small side dishes that add variety to a Korean meal.
If you are departing that evening, eat lunch while you are still in Songdo and keep dinner flexible for the airport. A translation app can help with menus, but check ingredients directly when an allergy or dietary restriction matters.
Festivals & Events
Music and culture in Songdo
Songdo's open spaces also host major summer events, while Tri-bowl brings exhibitions and performances closer to the Central Park walk. I did not attend an event during this visit; these are reasons to check the calendar if your stopover happens to coincide.
Pentaport Rock Festival: A major summer music festival at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park. Check the official festival programme for the next edition and transport arrangements.
Songdo Beer Festival: Beer and live music at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park, a separate location from Central Park. Confirm the dates and admission details with the festival organizer.
Tri-bowl exhibitions and performances: A changing programme inside the distinctive building beside Central Park.
For a short stopover, I would only add an event if the venue, finish time and airport transfer fit comfortably. Major festival dates can also affect hotel availability and local journeys.
Nearby Cities & Journeys
Seoul with more time
Seoul is a city I love and have visited many times for work, but it did not make sense for this overnight connection. I had previously taken an airport bus there for several days of client visits. If Seoul is the main purpose of your trip, give it its own stay and plan the airport transfer around the neighborhood where you are sleeping. For a brief connection, going into Seoul and back can consume much of the time you hoped to spend exploring.
Osaka before the stopover
Our journey began in Osaka, and Incheon broke up the trip back to San Francisco. Osaka deserves several days for its neighborhoods, food and city sights; explore the places I enjoy around Osaka before treating Incheon as a separate overnight stop.
San Francisco afterward
We continued to San Francisco on a 9 p.m. flight, which gave us most of the day in Incheon. If San Francisco is the destination rather than home, its neighborhoods, waterfront and city walks offer a very different setting after Songdo's planned skyline.
PLAN YOUR TIME
Suggested Itineraries
This is the single day in Songdo I would recommend between flights, with arrival the previous evening and a late onward departure. It reflects what I enjoyed most, rather than repeating every journey we made. Check the terminal, luggage arrangements and return-transfer timing first, then fit the sightseeing around them. On Mondays, keep the outdoor version in mind because several nearby interiors close.
ONE DAY
Day 1: Songdo between flights
Morning
Have breakfast, then walk Central Park's waterside paths and pedestrian bridges toward Tri-bowl. Stop for the skyline reflections, autumn trees in season and the contrasting architecture.
Allow roughly 1½–2 hours for a leisurely circuit, or shorten it after a tiring flight. If you want the panorama from G-Tower, check its opening time before heading there rather than arriving during an early-morning walk.
Afternoon
Have lunch near the park. Ann Bakery suited us after a large buffet breakfast; with a lighter breakfast, I would choose a sit-down Korean meal instead.
Visit the National Museum of World Writing Systems or Incheon Urban History Museum if open. Choose the G-Tower view in place of a museum if that interests you more, then return to the hotel for your bags. In wet or windy weather, shorten the morning walk and give the indoor visit more time.
Evening
Transfer to the confirmed departure terminal with the margin your flight requires. We left the hotel at 4 p.m. for a 9 p.m. flight.
Check in, complete departure formalities and have dinner at the airport before your onward flight.

TWO DAYS
My Tips for Your Visit
I am glad we stayed in Incheon instead of making the longer trip into Seoul. The park walk, changing leaves, striking buildings and generous breakfast made the overnight connection feel like a small visit of its own.
Next time, I would spend less of the day in cars and more of it in Songdo. The other districts were interesting, but Central Park was what I enjoyed most. A museum, a Korean lunch and time beside the water would be enough for a rewarding stopover.
