Plan & Book Your Trip to Yokohama
Yokohama gave us a welcoming waterfront city to come home to after busy days in Tokyo. I recommend allowing two full sightseeing days to explore the harbor promenades, museums, and Chinatown at a relaxed pace, with extra nights added if you plan to use the city as a base for Tokyo or day trips to Kamakura. Use these suggestions to plan an unhurried stay that fits your interests. (Note: If you book using the affiliate links below, I may earn a small commission. Transportation
Book Transportation
I find getting around very straightforward by combining rail lines between districts with walking along the waterfront.
Minatomirai Line
The primary subway line for sightseeing, connecting Minato Mirai, the Red Brick Warehouse, and Chinatown.
Walking the Waterfront
The broad promenades between Minato Mirai and Yamashita Park are best explored on foot.
Yokohama Station & Sakuragicho
Major transit interchanges offering direct train connections into central Tokyo and regional destinations, with direct Haneda Airport trains from Yokohama Station.
Shin-Yokohama Station
The separate high-speed rail hub where Tokaido Shinkansen bullet trains arrive from western Japan.
Yokohama Air Cabin
A scenic urban ropeway connecting Sakuragicho directly to the canal park area in about five minutes.

Book Accommodations
Yokohama combines expansive harbor promenades with rapid commuter rail lines directly into central Tokyo. When booking hotels, serviced apartments, or vacation rentals in Yokohama, the location will set the tone for how easy it is to visit Tokyo on day trips.
Minato Mirai Waterfron Hotels
We stayed here at the sail-shaped InterContinental, which provided fantastic walking access to waterfront promenades, museums, and shopping.
Yamashita Park Harbor Stays
A scenic base placing you right beside the historic waterfront, within easy walking distance of Chinatown.
Yokohama Station Transit Hotels
A practical option prioritizing major transit lines, airport links, and extensive department-store dining options.
Motomachi & Chinatown Stays
Stay here to step directly into bustling evening restaurant streets and historic European-style hillside neighborhoods.

Book Activities
What I enjoyed most was the open feeling of the harbor, balancing modern entertainment with historic port architecture.
Red Brick Warehouse
Stroll through these historic 1910s customs warehouses, now repurposed with shops, restaurants, and outdoor event spaces.
Chinatown Evenings
Explore Japan's largest Chinatown after dark, when illuminated gates, lanterns, and vibrant restaurant signs fill the streets.
Cosmo World & Cosmo Clock 21
Ride the giant 112-meter Ferris wheel or roller coasters for thrilling views across the harbor and skyline.
Yamashita Park Promenade
Take a relaxed walk along the water to watch harbor boats pass and view the historic ocean liner Hikawa Maru.
Yokohama Museum of Art
A spacious museum in Minato Mirai, offering a rewarding cultural stop that works especially well on a rainy day.

Book Journeys
Yokohama works wonderfully as an independent destination or as a calm, spacious base for exploring the wider region.
Tokyo
An easy, frequent train journey away, offering an energetic contrast to Yokohama's relaxed waterfront setting.
Kamakura
A classic day trip to the south to explore historic coastal temples, gardens, and the famous Great Buddha.
Sankeien Garden
Take a local bus journey south to wander around ponds, historic teahouses, and relocated traditional architecture.
