Plan & Book Your Trip to Nuremberg
Nuremberg has been part of my life since childhood, and living here in 2017 showed me how much it offers beyond its famous postcard views. I recommend allowing three to four days so you can explore the medieval Old Town, the castle, and the riverside walks at an easy pace while giving the city’s major museums and complex modern history the time they deserve. Plan & Book
Transportation
Book Transportation
I prefer exploring the historic center on foot, using the city's integrated transit network for sights farther out.
Walking the Old Town
The compact center is best seen on foot, though comfortable footwear helps on cobblestones and the castle hill.
U-Bahn and Trams
Quick and reliable transit for reaching neighboring Fürth, the Palace of Justice, and the former Rally Grounds.
Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof
The central railway station sits right outside the Old Town walls, offering direct regional and long-distance connections.
Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
The airport offers European flights and connects directly to the Hauptbahnhof in about twelve minutes via the U2 line.
Bicycles
A pleasant option for following paths beside the Pegnitz, whether riding east toward green spaces or west toward Fürth.

Book Accommodations
I recommend choosing an area that balances your travel plans with the neighborhood atmosphere you prefer when booking hotels, apartments, or vacation rentals.
Altstadt (St. Sebald) Hotels
Stay north of the river for immediate access to the Kaiserburg, historic lanes, and traditional Franconian dining.
Altstadt (St. Lorenz) Hotels & Stays
The southern half of the Old Town, convenient for pedestrian shopping streets, museums, and walks along the Pegnitz.
Hauptbahnhof Station Hotels
A very practical base for early train arrivals, day trips across Franconia, and easy luggage handling.
Wöhrd Stays & Rentals
A residential district just east of the walls, offering apartments in a quieter setting near lakeside paths at Wöhrder Wiese.
Fürth Historic Center Stays
Connected in minutes by the U1 line, neighboring Fürth makes a relaxed, characterful alternative to staying in Nuremberg.

Book Activities
What I love most is wandering without a rigid plan, taking in the historic architecture and riverside views.
The Kaiserburg
Explore this imperial fortress overlooking the city, taking in sweeping views across Nuremberg's rooftops from the castle terrace.
Pegnitz River Walk
Stroll along the river beneath historic bridges, including the Henkersteg and Kettensteg.
Germanisches Nationalmuseum
A vast museum dedicated to German art and cultural history that easily rewards several hours.
Documentation Center & Rally Grounds
Visit the Congress Hall exhibition and walk the grounds to understand the scale of National Socialist party rallies.
Memorium Nuremberg Trials
Explore the museum at the Palace of Justice, including Courtroom 600, covering the landmark postwar proceedings.

Book Journeys
Nuremberg is a natural rail hub and one of my favorite bases for exploring Franconia and wider Bavaria.
Bamberg
An easy train excursion to explore scenic riverside lanes, hillside views, and historic brewery taverns.
Bayreuth
Discover the Margravial Opera House, historic palaces, and garden landscapes on a relaxed day trip north.
Coburg
A rewarding outing featuring a massive hilltop fortress, a royal palace, and historic ties to British royalty.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
A classic walled town with timber-framed houses, best visited with an early start or an overnight stay.
Regensburg & Munich
Easy rail connections make either city a rewarding day trip or a multi-night stay.
