Plan & Book Your Trip to Bratislava
I recommend one or two full city days here, with two nights making for a relaxed short visit. After arriving by bicycle, I immediately appreciated the city's smaller, simpler scale compared to its grander neighbors. The medieval streets and relaxed riverside squares offer a wonderfully easygoing atmosphere. Use these suggestions to help plan your time here. Bratislava
Plan & Book
Transportation
Book Transportation
I explored mostly on foot and by streetcar, though the Danube also offers a great way to travel.
Walking the Old Town
The historic center is compact and best explored entirely on foot.
Local Transit
Use the network of trams, buses and trolleybuses to reach the stations or navigate the hills.
Arriving by Train
The city sits easily between Vienna and Budapest, just mind whether you arrive at the main station or Petržalka.
Vienna Airport
A highly convenient hub for international flights, just a short distance across the border.
Danube Catamaran
A fast and scenic way to travel the river to or from Vienna, which is exactly how I left.

Book Accommodations
Choosing a central base makes sightseeing simple, though it pays to check the local topography before booking hotels, guesthouses, or vacation rentals.
The Old Town Hotels & Rentals
Staying right in the historic center puts you steps away from the main sights and relaxed café squares.
Main Station Hotels
My own hotel was situated uphill by the main railway station, a practical spot if you prioritize train connections.
Eurovea Waterfront Stays
Look toward this newer riverside area for modern apartments and hotels near the Danube promenade.

Book Activities
Walking the little streets and stopping for coffee or ice cream was much of what I enjoyed here.
Bratislava Castle
The iconic white castle sits prominently on the hill, offering great views and framing the historic skyline.
The UFO Observation Deck
This striking tower above Most SNP offers a vivid contrast to the city's older Austro-Hungarian architecture.
Old Town Hall & Michael's Gate
Wander the narrow medieval streets and explore the historic landmarks right in the heart of the city.
The Blue Church
Walk just east of the center to see this beautifully detailed, pale-blue Art Nouveau landmark.
Sad Janka Kráľa
Cross the river to enjoy the trees and quiet walking paths of this historic public park.

Book Journeys
Bratislava's location makes it a natural hub for regional travel, whether you are following the river or catching a train.
Devín Castle
Take a short trip outside the city to explore these striking ruins overlooking two rivers.
Vienna
Just an hour away, the Austrian capital works perfectly as a day trip or a longer onward stay.
Budapest
A natural next stop if you are following the classic Central European route along the Danube.
The Danube Cycling Route
A fantastic way to arrive or depart, as I finished my own ride from Ingolstadt right here in the city.
