Plan & Book Your Trip to Bonn

Bonn is a city I could easily imagine living in. Two full city days give you enough time to explore its pedestrian center, though I recommend adding extra time for the gardens, museums, and regional outings. Everything feels manageable here, from the friendly university atmosphere to the beautiful paths along the Rhine. (Note: If you book using the affiliate links below, I may earn a small commission. Transportation

Book Transportation

I usually arrive by regional train, as the city has stations on both sides of the Rhine. Once you're here, walking and local transit make exploring simple.

Bonn Hbf
The central station puts you immediately next to the shopping streets and historic center.

Bonn-Beuel & Tram 62
A secondary regional station across the Rhine; just use tram 62 to easily reach the city center.

Walking the Center
The best way to get around downtown, taking you from the market square to the river in minutes.

Light Rail
A quick and convenient way to head south to the former government district and Museum Mile.

Gateway Airports
Cologne Bonn Airport is very close, while Frankfurt offers broader long-haul flights and high-speed rail connections.

Book Accommodations

I appreciate how everything in Bonn feels within reach. Depending on the pace you want, these are the areas I would consider for booking hotels, guesthouses, or vacation rentals:

Pedestrian Center Hotels
Stay near Münsterplatz or Markt for immediate access to shopping, historical sights, and the Rhine.

Südstadt Rentals & Stays
Look here for a quieter atmosphere among handsome residential streets just south of the city center.

Poppelsdorf Stays
A wonderful neighborhood near the university’s botanical collections, with a great selection of local restaurants.

Bonn-Beuel Hotels
Consider the eastern side of the Rhine, which is easily connected to the main sights by bridge and tram.

Book Activities

What I enjoy most about Bonn is how it balances a relaxed, friendly energy with world-class museums and international history.

Haus der Geschichte
A fascinating museum on the Museum Mile exploring Germany's modern history and Bonn's years as the federal capital.

Bonner Münster
A beautiful historic basilica right in the center of the city's lively squares.

Rhine Promenade & Alter Zoll
Take a walk looking south toward the hills, or see the city from the water on a sightseeing boat.

Beethoven's Hometown
Walk down Bonngasse and through Münsterplatz to trace the legacy of the city's most famous composer.

Phantasialand
If you enjoy theme parks, this is a highly recommended and completely different kind of day out.
